Square Enix will remove voice actor Pierre Taki’s work from the Japanese version of Kingdom Hearts 3 and update the game with a new dub, the company said in a news release Thursday. Taki voiced Olaf from Frozen in Kingdom Hearts 3, reprising his role as the Japanese voice actor in the Frozen movies.
The move should have little or no impact on the Western release of Kingdom Hearts 3, which features actor Josh Gad in the role of Olaf.
Square Enix said it would announce additional details about the game’s update in the future.
Official confirmation of Taki’s removal from Kingdom Hearts 3 comes shortly after the actor was arrested by authorities in Tokyo on suspicion of drug use. Taki reportedly tested positive for cocaine based on a urine sample test. Possession or use of cocaine carries a prison sentence of up to seven years in Japan, where artists arrested for drug-related crimes are often scrubbed from creative works.
